- I have encountered a problem setting up a modem on a Gateway 2000 P-75
- PC.
-
- The problem has been duplicated on another, identical Gateway P-75 and
- I've heard of another Gateway system here in town with similar
- difficulties
-
- The hardware is:
- Gateway 2000 P-75 - Pentium 75Mhz
- 8MB RAM
- Internal Modem - Gateway TelePath 14.4
- The Software:
- Windows 95
- Netscape 1.1PE
-
- The first problem I have is the internal modem (Gateway 14.4 TelePath II)
- is not recognized by the modem detection feature...so it must be selected
- after NetScape attempts to determine it.
-
- Next, if we try to connect at speeds above 9600 we get dumped from the
- service provider. At speeds above 9600 we will recieve the logon screen
- from the provider just fine, but when we attempt to enter the logon name
- an incorrect character string is returned. For example if the logon name
- string entered is "hill" the return string is "f3en". This is consistent
- between machines and various modems selected. At 9600 we can connect
- just fine.
-
- The Internet provider has 28.8 modems so this speed should be no problem.
- Also, a friend of mine has an internal US Robotics Sportster 14.4 modem.
- When installed in the Gateway Netscape detects it and connects at 14.4
- just fine.
-
- I have a 16550 UART. I feel there is a problem in the modem setup
- string. Is there a remedy to this situation?
-
- Thanks.
